WELCOME TO FIRST GRADE!

2010-2011 School year

I am so excited to begin this school year! I'd like to tell you a little about myself.  I have lived in Ainsworth for a little over 14 years now.  I'm married and have three sons: Austin (14 years old) and twins (11 yrs) Gabe and Nathan.  Austin and Gabe are in the Talented and Gifted program, while Nathan has Down syndrome (and thus has more challenges).  I think this wide spectrum of abilities has helped me become a better teacher.  I strive to set realistic, but high standards for all students, regardless of ability. 

This is my 8th year teaching at Highland, seven of those years have been in first grade! It is very enjoyable to teach first graders and watch them change throughout the school year.  Many children enter this grade knowing how to read a few words and then leave knowing well over 150 words!

I strongly believe in communication between parents and teachers.  Therefore, if you ever have a concern or question, please don't hesitate to contact me.  If it is an urgent matter, please call the school as I don't always get the opportunity to check my email throughout the day.  Otherwise, please feel free to email me and I will get back to you as soon as I can!
